Philosophy The Are of Refuge-Transcending Program is built on the philosophy that all persons have the right to a clean, safe, and secure community and that all people affected with HIV/AIDS have the right to compassionate and ethical treatment.

Mission The mission of Transcending is to provide the very best comprehensive education and caring support to Transgendered individuals. This is accomplished through offering a variety of programs and resources focused on the factors affecting their lives.

Transcending Program The Transcending Program began providing services to transgender individuals in 1997. Transcending provides Practical support, Peer and Treatment Advocacy services for Transgenders of color in San Francisco who are impacted by HIV/AIDS or at risk for HIV infection. The Transcending program is located in the heart of the community it serves. The site is welcoming and provides a nonjudgmental environment. All services are confidential, culturally sensitive, and operate with clear linkages and collaboration with medical and social service providers Services include: Treatment and Peer Advocacy Individual Counseling, Referral Services Mentorship Program HIV Education &Prevention On site Medical Services & Pharmacy Individual Counseling and Referrals Recovery and Social Support Groups
